Today we . . .
continued to learn about focusing our attention using our eyes to watch and ears to listen in a easy sitting pose - “sukhasana.”
learned 3 different breathing exercises - bumblebee, bunny rabbit & flower breath. Each breath helps aide children with specific emotions/behaviors. Bumblebee breath is very effective to calm one’s mind especially when feeling anxious or angry. The bunny rabbit breath is very effective to cleanse one’s breath especially when feeling sadness - helps a child to engage in exhaling, which we tend to forget when we are upset. The flower breath is very effective to relieve tension - pretend to have flowers in hands, breathe in through the nose, breathe out through the mouth.
read “My Many Colored Days” by Dr. Seuss to honor Dr. Seuss’ birthday on March 2nd - a book about emotions.
reenacted the story using ribbons and scarves to show the different emotions with each animal.
shared how we are feeling during our feedback session.
played with fidget spinners and focused our attention on the function of the spinner - help children to practice mindfulness - being in the moment.
and acknowledged our gratitude - "Namaste" - thank you; “I shine my light in you as you shine your light in me.”
