Last Day of Winter Yoga Class at Sandy Lane Nursery School

Today we . . . 

positioned our bodies and focus in a “Show Me You Are Ready” posture and took 3 collective breaths.

reviewed the true meaning of yoga - yoga is everything - yoga is life - it’s about being thankful for everything in your life.  Another word for thankful is grateful.  

discussed the meaning of thankful and grateful. We also discussed why we say thank you.

learned how to say thank you in different languages - Italian (grazie), Spanish (gracias), Chinese (xie xie), German (danke), French (merci), Sign Language and Sanskrit (namaste).

practiced the pigeon pose - (correlates with the character found at the end of each story).

read “The Thank You Book” by Mo Willems - a book about being thankful for every person in one’s life. Piggie acknowledged all his friends and let them know he was thankful for each one of them for a particular reason.

performed Freeze Dance while dancing and listening to “Can’t Stop the Feeling”! - froze into a familiar yoga pose from Mo Willems books.

experienced a new breathing technique the “Gratitude Breath” - breathe in - breathe out - We are grateful for our mind, which helps us to think.  Continue breathing while be grateful for eyes - to see, ears - to hear, mouth - to talk and taste, nose - to smell, and hands to touch.  We are grateful for our five senses and our mind for helping us to explore the world around us.

relaxed with our breathing buddies while engaging in a do-nothing pose (savasana).

gathered in a circle and passed a thankful moment and/or person as we “Passed the Squeeze” during our feedback circle.

and acknowledged our gratitude for our last yoga class - I shine my light in you as you shine your light in me. Together we are thankful as we light up the world - Namaste - thank you!
